Academy at the Lakes is a school that embraces community service. The school-wide virtues program teaches students to know the good, love the good, and do the good. Throughout the year, students and faculty volunteer their time and energy working with local charities and organizations to help feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and clean-up the environment.

On Wednesday, August 26th, several faculty members and parents at Academy at the Lakes provided another “treasure” to financially disadvantaged children who suffer from long-term medical hair loss.

Lower Division Director Annie Kapetanis, Admissions Director Julia Loncar, English Department Chair Lynne Grigelevich, Business Manager Dorie Burnham, teacher Desiree Rodriquez, and Academy parents Lora Riggs and Kelley Vance donated their hair to the Locks of Love foundation.

Callidora Salon & Spa (Lutz, FL) provided the haircuts for all participants.

The event gained so much interest that it spurred a lower division school assembly. Several lower division students were honored for their donations to Locks of Love: Cecilia Beede ’18, Amelia Cozzolino ‘19, Hannah Nunes ’18, Carly Powell ‘19, Grace Szarko ‘18, and Jessica Vance ’21.

WTVT Fox 13 was on campus to film the event and aired the story in their “What’s Right With Tampa Bay” segment.
