College Counseling

College counseling is a very significant piece of the value of an Academy at the experience. Our outstanding team will work with you and your family to help you find a great college fit – a college that will suit you in many different ways. The appropriate matching of students with the best college for them is our strength.

We provide strong advising in course planning and individual attention in scheduling over the four years so that a transcript is built that is in concert with your higher education aspirations. Faculty and administrators build strong relationships with each student over the years. Accordingly, recommendations are personal, meaningful and powerful.

Our knowledgeable counseling team will help guide you through the college search and admissions process by providing information and suggestions for college planning throughout your years at Academy. Throughout their high school years, Academy students participate in several college planning activities, including PSAT prep, college search exercises, interview practice, resume writing and career interest surveys. Individual meeting with parents, students and counselors are always available and intensify in the spring of junior and fall of senior year. In addition, during the Junior Year, a number of Junior College Colloquia are presented on the college search process, elements of the college admissions process, and financial aid, as well as a Common Application tutorial, an application essay workshop, and College Topics Roundtables at lunch. In the fall of the senior year, intensive individualized counseling and support with application essays and forms are offered by the English Department and College Counseling Team.

As a result of our program, a very high percentage of our students gain admission into their first-choice college. 95% of Academy at the Lakes’ graduates go on to college. Our alumni are attending many of the finest colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada. They are attractive candidates because they have had the opportunities to lead and discover their true potential. They are confident and accomplished young adults who are ready to take on the world.
