Academy at the Lakes’ curriculum provides a well-defined focus and energy for not only academics, but also for service, arts, athletics, and other activities. Our goal is to help our students develop their skills in each of six key areas that are necessary for success in the academic arena, workplace, and global market.
Whether it’s social studies, math, science, technology, language arts, Spanish, or Chinese, every classroom lesson is tied to at least one of the “6 Cs” of our curriculum. Academy’s “6 Cs” were derived from writings first published by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
CHARACTER: Middle Division advisory groups meet weekly and focus on activities related to problem-solving, character education, study skills, and academic enhancement.
CITIZENSHIP: Lower Division students take an oath to serve the Academy community as members of our Safety Patrol.
COLLABORATION: Upper Division students work together to develop one-of-a-kind robots for their S.T.E.M. competitions.
COMMUNICATION: Beginning in 4th grade, students participate in an annual public speaking contest to help them hone their confidence and presentation skills.
CREATIVITY: Middle Division science students construct cells using candy for their designs.
CRITICAL THINKING: Upper Division students may apply for a Pre-Med seminar, allowing them to explore the medical field beyond the books.
