The 2014 USF Young Innovators Contest took place on the evening of February 11th, Thomas Edison’s birthday. On this special night, ten finalists selected from over 500 applicants, presented their own unique inventions before a panel of distinguished judges.
Melissa presented her designs for a shopping cart that will take shopping into the 21st Century. Hannah showcased her LED mat that can bring light to any dark place.
Melissa and Hannah began working on their inventions as part of their science classes for our school Invention Convention which took place this past December. Under the guidance of Middle Division Science teacher Elizabeth Magnusson, Melissa and Hannah put in many hours after school to perfect their presentations. Participating in this contest brings a fantastic opportunity for our students to practice Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Communication with real-world entrepreneurial skills.
Congratulations Melissa and Hannah!
