Lexi Kilfoyl ’19 Selected for 2017 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Training Team, Featured on Spectrum Sports

Academy at the Lakes’ sophomore Lexi Kilfoyl was one of only 24 athletes from around the country to be selected to join the 2017 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Training Team after a two-day selection process that took place in Clearwater, FL.

AATL’s new Head Softball Coach Diane Stephenson watched her tryouts. “She did fantastic. For her to be chosen as one of the Top 24 young women in the country to be on the training team is phenomenal. “

Coach Stephenson is looking forward to working with Lexi this season, but gives a lot of the credit to the work her pitching coach, Kaci Zerbe, has done with her so far.

“I’m extremely proud of her and I’m so excited,” said Stephenson. “I was excited before for our season to start, but I’m even more excited now. I hope this gives Lexi the boost and the arm she needs to take down hitters.”

Lexi was also chosen as Spectrum Sports’ Athlete of the Week. Spectrum Sports Reporter Rishi Barron interviewed her on campus for a special segment that will be aired on channel 1147 beginning at 9pm on Wednesday, Jan. 11 and will repeat every half hour until Friday, Jan. 12 at 5:30pm. The story will also air on Saturday, Jan. 13 throughout the day on Bay News 9.
