VERO BEACH — On a day when the weather at the state softball tournament finally said yes, Academy at the Lakes pitcher Alexis Kilfoyl said no to Lake Worth Christian.
The hard-throwing right-hander fired a no-hitter in a Class 2A semifinal Monday morning in a 15-0 rout over the Defenders to send the Wildcats to Tuesday’s championship game at Historic Dodgertown.
The Wildcats will face Aucilla Christian in the title contest, which has an 11:05 start.
“I really focused on trying to fix everything in this game,” said Kilfoyl, who dominated the Defenders in a game that was called in the bottom of the fourth after the Wildcats took the 15-run advantage.
The game was the second of the tournament, which has had its start postponed a week because of constant rain. The championship field, however, was dried early, the rain ceased and Academy at the Lakes quickly made the game a one-sided affair.
