What’s New in Summer Camp

Summer is the time that your kids get to spend every day doing something new and fun. The right summer camp gives them the option to be a part of so many different activities that they’ll have a hard time picking just one! Summer at the Lakes offers a variety of over fifty camps ranging from STEM camps to all sorts of athletic ones. This summer, there are sixteen new offerings which means even more fun for our campers! Here are the new camps:

Patriotic Playhouse for 3-Year-Olds and 4-Year-Olds
Week: 7/1 (3-Day Week of Camp)
Time: 8:30 AM-3:00 PM
Age: 3 and 4 years old
Campers will enjoy patriotic-themed games, songs, stories, and crafts during the week of 4th of July.

Coding with iPads
Week of:6/3
Time: 8:30-11:30 AM
Grades: 3rd-5th

Grades: K-2nd
Coding is for everyone! Learn how to code using our camp iPads. By the end of the week you will learn how to code games and program mini-robots. Enhance your computer skills while adding to the exciting world of coding!

Computer Programming Basics
Week of: 6/24
Time: 8:30-11:30 AM
Grades: 8th & 9th
Now that we use computers for most of our daily lives, computer programming has become a core skill that everyone should understand. If you are new to computer programming or you are already interested but want to learn more fun ways to grow your skills, then this camp is exactly what you are looking for. Learn to build interactive games and web sites in this beginner class. No experience necessary. Limited to 8 students.

CSI Academy
Week of: 6/24
Time: 12:00-3:00 PM
Grades: 6th-9th
Do you want to be a Crime Scene Investigator? Spend the week using hands-on forensic science to solve mock crimes. Campers will learn how to look for clues, dust for fingerprints, document, photograph, and analyze evidence. This week will provide campers an inside look at how investigators solve real crimes. Campers will also participate in an escape room experience off-campus to test their problem-solving skills!

Digital Media & Journalism
Week of: 6/17
Time: 12:00-3:00 PM
Grades: 7th-9th
This camp combines journalism basics with 21st-century digital literacy and multimedia training. Campers become better storytellers through writing, photography, video, and social media. Campers research, investigate, create, and post public stories about Summer at the Lakes’ activities and larger world issues on the Camp’s news website and Instagram account.

STEAMgineering

We won’t just learn science, technology, engineering, arts, and math – we’ll make it, create it, and build it! STEAMgineering Camp offers hands-on, project-based learning, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills through fun, engaging activities.

Wild and Wacky Science Junior

Do you like mad science? If so, this is the camp for you! Join us for a fun and exciting week full of goo, explosions, and concoctions! We will explore the fundamentals of science, learn, laugh, and investigate the world around us by conducting wacky science experiments.

Woodworking
Week of: 6/10
Time: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Grades: 5th-9th
Learn how to use basic woodworking tools and techniques to build a handmade toolbox to take home at the end of the week. Campers will also learn basic whittling skills! If you enjoy being creative and constructing projects, then this is the camp for you!

Sweet Treats and Eats

Calling all Culinary Artists! Join us for a week of scrumptious cooking and baking. Each week will feature a different theme and you’ll be whipping up classic sweets treats and exciting eats. Campers get to eat their creative culinary creations each day!

Drawing & Painting Party!

It’s a whole week of drawing and painting! We will spend the week focusing on a different theme and learn how to draw and paint. For Week 1, the theme is “Animals & Insects” for K-2nd graders, this means we will draw and paint mythical creatures, pre-historic animals, insects, exotic animals and more! The theme for the week of 6/17 is “Pop Culture Characters” for 3rd-5th graders. We will draw and paint characters from comics, video games, movies, and television!

Handcraft Designs
Weeks of: 6/10, 6/24
Time: 8:30-11:30 AM
Grades: 3rd-9th
This will be a week full of fun and creativity! Campers will learn how to crochet, cross-stitch, and embroider. Campers will learn sewing skills while working on a variety of DIY projects. All levels of experience are welcome, whether you are refining your skills or learning for the first time, everyone will have fun!

First Responders Academy
Week of: 6/24
Time: 12:00-3:00 PM
Grades: 2nd-5th
Do you want to be a firefighter, EMT, police officer, or federal emergency responder? Spend the week learning about each profession and what it takes to succeed. Each day will focus on a different first responder career and will include hands-on activities, first aid training, and guest speakers. This is a week that campers will never forget!

Bonjour, les amis! Get ready for a great immersion adventure in the French culture and Language. Let’s find out where people speak the language all across the globe. An unforgettable experience which will motivate your child to explore and love the French language. This engaging camp includes games, songs, books, and activities that are built around the famous cycling race, The Tour de France! Au revoir et à bientôt!

Fun Fit

Each day will be an adventure and opportunity to become physically fit and stay active throughout the summer. Campers will participate in different physical activities like body-weight training, weight-lifting, and endurance training. This camp will test their coordination, improve their balance, increase their endurance, and show campers that fitness is FUN!

Girls’ Volleyball

Spend a week learning the foundational skills of volleyball through extremely fun drills and practice games. Young athletes will learn all the basic fundamentals of volleyball such as passing, setting, and serving.
