On January 29th the 7th & 8th Grade FIRST Lego League Robotics Team traveled to Ft. Meyers to compete in the Robot Game portion of the qualifying competition. They programmed their autonomous robot to complete as many missions on the game board as possible in 2 ½ minutes. They were able to score a team best 200 points. The following weekend they competed in the virtual portion of the event presenting their solution to the problem of damaged packages. Using the scientific principle found in Mark Rober’s egg drop test, they constructed an exoskeleton that is housed inside of the cardboard panels of a box and made of an inexpensive yet durable plastic material. In addition they defended their robot design and programming strategies employed during the Robot Game. The team was selected to move on to the Regional Championship in Bradenton on Saturday, March 5.

At the Regional Championship, the team increased their overall Robot Game point total to 270 and placed in the top 10 in that portion of the event. Their Innovation Project and presentation was awarded First Place out of the 32 teams that competed in the event. The team received an invitation to represent the West Florida Region in the State Championship Competition held in the Ft. Walton Beach area on April 2. In the meantime they have been revising their exoskeleton design, getting feedback from industry professionals and working on more Robot Game missions to increase their point total.Met[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
