Campus Life

Two words: Get Involved

Academy at the Lakes provides big opportunities in a small setting. Each student is vitally important to the success of the school. Thrive on an athletic team. Shine on the stage. Explore your passions with classmates. The bottom line is you belong at Academy. It’s all about the Academy Experience.

Award-winning athletic programs

Athletics are an important part of the Academy experience. Our Award-Winning Athletic department fields 39 athletic teams at the Middle School, Junior Varsity, and Varsity levels, and each year an average of 80% of Academy students in grades 6-12 participate in school-sponsored athletics. As members of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 1A and 2A Classification, our Wildcats have won multiple district, regional, and state championships, and consistently earn All-District and All-State honors.

In keeping with the school’s mission, Academy has a no-cut policy for all athletic teams.

Academy at the Lakes offers numerous athletic opportunities to both our Middle and Upper-Division students. They include basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball and weightlifting. We are members of the Florida High School Athletic Association and compete at the Class 1A and 2A level.

STEM

Curriculum as unique as your child.

Academy students learn to think, create, adapt, and invent. At Academy, we’re proud to offer dynamic, hands-on learning experiences that allow students to follow their interests and passions. Robotics programs prepare students for the future while building leadership, teamwork, and technical skills, making important connections from concept, to the classroom, to the community.

Key Benefits of a STEM Curriculum:

Fine Arts

We value creative expression.

If your child likes to paint, draw, mold, sing, act, or play make-believe, we have the classes and teachers to bring out their best. Students may choose from visual art, theater, choral and instrumental music, film-making, script writing, graphic design, and video production. Beginning in the Lower Division, students may play a string or band instrument, and all of our 5th and 6th graders participate in either strings or band. Students in each division participate in multiple stage and concert productions throughout the year and have the opportunity to showcase and celebrate their work in visual art.

The music and fine arts program at this school is wonderful. As a student considering studying music in college, Academy offers numerous opportunities to help me reach that dream and make it reality.

Student

Visual Arts

The arts are our playground to encourage creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

Academy students explore art in an environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Our youngest students experience art through numerous hands-on media that allows them to “get messy” in a safe space. Our Middle and Upper Division students are inspired to express their individuality while creating works of art in a supportive atmosphere through classes such as graphic arts and design, studio art electives, yearbook, and more.

Academy is an excellent learning community for a student of any age. Teachers take the time to get to know their students and their needs. Children as young as 3 years old have the chance to interact with high schoolers in activities such as House Day, Buddy Reading, the All-School Musical, and the Senior Cake Bake. The environment is warm and welcoming and as soon as a new family walks through the doors, they are greeted with respect from faculty and students. Academy at the Lakes prepares students for college while also allowing them to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Student

Theater

Academy students shine through our musical theater, drama, and public speaking opportunities.

Being on stage gives students the chance to boost their confidence and hone their communication skills. Opportunities to sing, dance, and act begin in our Lower Division and continue all the way through Senior year.

In addition to numerous small- and mid-scale age-appropriate productions, Academy annually produces a full-scale K-12 musical at a professional theater. Students bond across age groups in this unique aspect of our culture.

Choral Program

Singing is part of our culture.

Whether performing in the larger community, at all-school assemblies, singing the Hallelujah Chorus at the Winter Concert, preparing for the annual All-School Musical, belting Broadway and pop solos at Cabaret Night, or joining the antics of the Boys a cappella group, choral music at Academy brings a signature joy to the journey.

After-School Enrichment

At Academy, the fun and learning don’t end when the school day is over!

The Wildcat Club is Academy’s after school enrichment program, available to students in grades PK3 – 4. Through the Wildcat Club, students can explore new skills and areas of interest, engage with high-quality teaching, and have fun! Programs vary by the session, but include offerings such as Coding with iPads, Fiesta Party, Book Cooks, Karaoke, Yoga, Archery, Sports, Cheerleading, and much more.

At Academy at the Lakes, there are opportunites for everyone.

The rich student experience at Academy at the Lakes includes opportunities for students to discover their passions, develop leadership skills, and engage with peers in meaningful ways.
