HomeTeam 15: Softball rankings for Tampa Bay

Wildcats in the News

Original article by Bob Putnam, Tampa Bay Times

There are five teams still undefeated in the top 15. As expected, Academy at the Lakes is there. The defending Class 3A state champion has been crushing teams so far. River Ridge is there, too. But one of them will no longer be unbeaten considering they face each other Monday.

1. Academy at the Lakes (3-0)

Up next: Monday vs. River Ridge

Why they stayed put: The Wildcats have been so dominant they have only played one full game so far this season. In its only game last week, Academy at the Lakes cruised to a 15-0 victory over Lakeside Christian that was called after four innings because of the mercy rule. Lexi Kilfoyl struck out all six batters she faced before Mia Fields relieved her in the third. Kilfoyl also hit doubles. Jessica Mott was 4-for-4 with two RBIs. In the three games, the Wildcats have outscored foes by a combined 33-0. The schedule gets a lot tougher in the next two weeks, starting with Monday’s game against River Ridge in a matchup of undefeated teams.
