Life at the Lakes: March 2025

Here is a glimpse at Life at the Lakes in March:

March 5: iFly Field Trip

Come fly with me!

Dr. Dolan’s 6th Grade Science class took to the skies at iFly, defying gravity and exploring the science of flight!

  • Academy students dove into the fascinating world of flight through:
  • Interactive STEM presentations on real-world applications
  • Physics demonstrations in the wind tunnel
  • Hands-on lab activities and immersive experiments
  • One-on-one flying with certified iFLY instructors

A day full of discovery, fun, and learning!

Great opportunities await for all budding scientists and aviators!

March 7: Student/Faculty Basketball Game

A school that plays together stays together!

Another great tradition in the books! The entire school came together for the annual Student/Faculty basketball game, and what an event it was!

The energy was electric as students cheered on their classmates, and the younger Wildcats showed their love for the teachers. In the end, the Faculty held on to snag the win and the bragging rights for the year!

But no matter the score, the real victory was the sense of community we all shared as Wildcats.

Fight, Fight, Blue and White!

March 11: Day of Manners

Manners matter!

At Academy at the Lakes, we strive to raise good people, and teaching proper manners is a key part of that goal.

Our 5th and 6th-grade students have been working hard this year to perfect their table etiquette! From setting the perfect table to learning about communal eating and engaging in appropriate conversation, they’re gaining valuable life skills that will stay with them forever.

Special thanks to Young Chefs Academy for donating their time and expertise to make our students better!

March 12: Cake Bake

Let them eat cake!

One of our favorite Academy traditions was in full swing today! Our graduating seniors spent some quality time with our SK students making, baking, and, of course, eating a cake in their House colors. The Littles absolutely LOVE spending time with their Bigs!

After the cake was decorated and devoured, things got a little wild… the seniors turned the leftover frosting into a legendary food fight! Squirt guns and water hoses turned the day into a sweet and messy adventure.

Another unforgettable day to be a Wildcat!

March 13: Mini Medical School

Mini meds!

Our 1st Graders donned lab coats and brain hats for an exciting, hands-on lesson about the Nervous System! These little doctors explored different parts and functions of the brain and even practiced being both physicians and patients.

This engaging experience is part of their First-Grade Science Curriculum, diving into the Human Body System.

A huge thank you to @littlemedical_tampabay for making this interactive lesson both fun and educational!

March 14-16: UD Chicago Trip

Windy City!

Our Upper Division students took sightseeing to a whole new level during their weekend getaway to Chicago! From marveling at the stunning architecture and enjoying first-class improv at Second City to a breathtaking boat tour and, of course, diving into the deep-dish pizza—this trip had it all!

They also explored the University of Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry, Wrigley Field, and a beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home. Packed with incredible sights and valuable learning experiences, this whirlwind adventure was unforgettable!

A huge thank you to all the chaperones who ensured every student was safe and happy throughout the trip!

March 19: Community Service

We rise by lifting others.

Community service is at the heart of Academy, and today was no exception! Dozens of students dedicated their time and effort at Metropolitan Ministries and Feeding Tampa Bay, embracing the spirit of giving.

Our awesome students prepared bags of food, unloaded supplies, cleaned, and even held babies, showing what it means to serve. Giving back is how we roll, and we hope our contributions make a meaningful impact in our community. Way to go, Academy!

March 20 & 21: All School Musical

Somewhere over the Rainbow!

The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here—showtime!

For months, our incredibly talented students have poured their hearts into perfecting their roles in our all-school musical, The Wizard of Oz. Today, the cast added the final touches before the curtain rises tonight.

If the dress rehearsal was any indication, the audience is in for an unforgettable experience!

We couldn’t be prouder of the hard work, dedication, and passion each student and staff member has shown to make this possible. This performance truly showcases what Academy is all about!
