World Champions!

Academy at the Lakes is now home to a World Champion Odyssey of the Mind team! Last month, The Odyssey of the Mind Technical Team as well as our other state championship team, the Performance Team, made the trip to Ames, Iowa, to compete with 700 teams from 11 different countries at the World Finals. The Tech team was tasked with designing, building, and operating an Artificial Intelligence “Tech-NO-Art” device that determines if a work of art is beautiful or not. They also had to present this device in a performance that highlighted their creativity, ingenuity, and humor. All their efforts and abilities added up to a World Championship!

The Tech team earned a trip to the World Finals for the third consecutive year and are 3-time state champions.  However, after two straight 4th place finishes at Worlds, the Tech team is thrilled to have accomplished their ultimate goal of becoming world champions.

“It’s an amazing experience overall going to Worlds, it’s definitely a major accomplishment and I’m super proud of myself and my team for how much we’ve grown over the years to accomplish it!”

A special, most deserving shoutout goes to parent-coaches Suzanne Meiners-Levy and Theresa Gorski and school coordinator Rachel Klaeren for all the blood, sweat, and tears they poured into making this world championship possible!
