Lifer Spotlight – Sophia ’25

Lifer Spotlight: Sophia '25

This fall, Sophia is heading  to the University of South Carolina to study neuroscience. Her Academy journey began 13 years ago in Senior Kindergarten.

Sophia fondly describes Academy as a second home, “Growing up as an only child and attending one school my whole life means that the people I’ve grown up with since we were little are like my siblings,” she reflects. “I’ve seen and been around them almost my whole life.”

Academically, Sophia challenged herself with Advanced Placement classes and consistently earned Head of School Honors. Her academic success was made possible, she says, by the close-knit environment Academy fosters. “Being in a small classroom allows me to freely ask questions, and my teachers are able to connect with me and develop real relationships.” A dedicated student, Sophia was a member of both the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society. As part of NEHS, she played an integral role in an after-school enrichment program that paired Upper Division students with those in Lower Division. Together, they read stories and participated in themed activities designed to spark a love of reading and promote literacy while also building meaningful connections between our Lower and Upper Division students.

Sophia’s leadership and commitment to Academy’s culture were evident in every facet of her student life. A dedicated student-athlete, she competed in volleyball, soccer, and weightlifting. Beyond athletics, Sophia served as a Student Ambassador in both Middle and Upper Division, warmly welcoming new students and families into the community. She was also an active member of Blue Crew and the Environmental Club, and through Key Club, she generously volunteered her time to support causes beyond campus.

Sophia’s creative talents began when she was young, playing the violin and the clarinet and singing in the chorus. A talented actress, she performed in the All-School Musical 13 times! But her creative aptitude extended beyond the stage to film, yearbook, and woodworking.

Sophia shares that it’s the little moments that stand out most, “I’ll always be able to share core memories with the other lifers. We’ll randomly remember moments and say to each other, ‘Oh my gosh, do you remember when….’” She appreciates that the friendships she has formed will last a lifetime.”

As she heads to South Carolina, Sophia leaves behind a legacy of leadership and involvement and a strong belief in the value of Academy’s community.
