How to Apply

In order to become a student at Academy at the Lakes, all prospective families must follow the following process:

  1. Schedule an admission tour by contacting the Admissions office by email or by phone.

  2. Complete the Application for Admission. Candidates for grades 9-12 complete the Upper School Candidate Application Supplement.

  3. Attach the $50.00 Application Fee to the Application for Admission.

  4. Sign and give the Teacher Recommendation & Release of Student Records Form to your child’s current school. The school will mail this confidential recommendation directly to Academy at the Lakes.

  5. Day of Visitation:

    Lower Division: Candidates entering PreK-3 participate in a group screening session in the spring. Candidates entering junior and senior kindergarten spend a morning on campus. Candidates entering first through fourth grade spend an entire school day shadowing one of our student ambassadors.

    Middle and Upper Division: Candidates applying for grades five through twelve spend an entire day on campus shadowing one of our student ambassadors and interview with the Division Director.

  6. Testing:

    Lower Division: Candidates entering junior kindergarten and senior kindergarten need to arrange a developmental screening with the Admission Office. Screenings are usually scheduled during their day of visitation. Candidates entering grades 1-4 will have a math and writing assessment administered during their day of visitation.

    Middle Division: Assessment for candidates entering 5th and 6th grade will be completed on their day of visitation. Candidates entering 7th and 8th grade must take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Register for this test online at www.ssat.org and enter our school code: 1057. There is a fee for this test that is payable to SSAT. Students should bring an Admission Ticket issued by SSAT to the exam which is given on the McCormick Campus on Saturday mornings. Please consult SSAT for the test calendar.

    Upper Division: Candidates entering 9th and 12th grade must take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Register for this test online at www.ssat.org and enter our school code: 1057. Please consult SSAT for the test calendar. If your child has taken the PSATs, we will accept those scores in lieu of the SSAT.

The Admission Committee meets weekly. The completed files for all applicants are reviewed and parents notified promptly of the committee’s decision.

Enrollment Agreements are mailed with the acceptance package. A reasonable amount of time is allowed for parents to return the signed enrollment agreement along with a $1,000.00 non-refundable deposit. This deposit will be applied toward tuition.
