High School Chemistry and Computer Science

Academy at the Lakes, a PreK3 through Grade 12 school located just north of Tampa, FL, seeks a Database and Donor Relations Specialist with an anticipated start date of July 1. Enrolling approximately 500 students on two campuses, Academy is one of the Tampa Bay area’s top college preparatory schools.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The High School Chemistry and Computer Science Teacher is responsible for imparting knowledge in both the realms of Chemistry and Computer Science to students. The ideal candidate is adept at teaching Java, Python, and JavaScript programming languages and has hands-on experience conducting and supervising chemistry labs.

KEY DUTIES and REPOMSIBILITIES:

  • Curriculum Planning and Implementation
  • Develop comprehensive lesson plans for both chemistry and computer science that align with state and school curriculum standards.
  • Ensure the incorporation of the latest developments in Java, Python, and JavaScript into the computer science curriculum.
  • Instructional Delivery
  • Conduct chemistry experiments in a lab setting, emphasizing the importance of safety protocols and accurate results interpretation.
  • Facilitate computer science sessions, focusing on coding exercises and projects in Java, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Student Assessment and Feedback
  • Administer tests, quizzes, and projects in both subjects, ensuring a fair assessment of students’ grasp on both programming languages and chemistry concepts.
  • Offer timely and constructive feedback to students on their coding proficiency and chemistry knowledge.
  • Classroom Management
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters creativity in coding and enthusiasm in chemistry experiments.
  • Set and enforce classroom rules to ensure a conducive learning environment.
  • Professional Development
  • Attend workshops and seminars on the latest trends in Java, Python, JavaScript, and chemistry education.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay updated with advancements in both fields.
  • Technology Integration
  • Implement technology tools and software to enhance the learning experience in computer science, ensuring students are well-versed in the latest coding practices.
  • Introduce students to various platforms and tools relevant to Java, Python, and JavaScript development.
  • Student Guidance
  • Offer additional assistance to students who struggle with complex programming problems or challenging chemistry concepts.
  • Advise students on potential career paths in both the chemistry and computer science sectors.
  • Administrative Tasks
  • Attend staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school events.
  • Maintain accurate student records, ensuring confidentiality and integrity.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Computer Science, Education, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Proven experience teaching at the high school level or higher and conducting chemistry labs.
  • Strong passion for education and a commitment to fostering a positive learning Environment

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one-year related experience.
